A RESIDENT whose house was damaged when a car crashed into it has called for traffic-calming measures.

A Vauxhall Astra driven by a man in his late teens or early 20s crashed into three houses in Mill Street at about 1pm on Saturday.

The driver did not need treatment but the row of terrace homes were evacuated following concerns about structural safety.

Jim Coffey, 68, said his home was one of three that had been damaged in the incident.

He added: “The front of my house has been damaged, along with two other homes in the street, but I don’t know how bad the damage is yet.

“Insurers have been contacted and they have called structural engineers.

“It’s a 30mph zone and I think traffic does sometimes exceed that limit.

“I think measures do need to be introduced to cut traffic speed and that could mean traffic-calming measures, part pedestrianisation or making the street one-way.”
