CHILDREN and staff are celebrating after their school earned a “good” rating from the national watchdog.

Ofsted inspectors visited The Ridgeway Primary School in Childrey, near Wantage, on October 9 and 10.

Their report, published on November 7, said pupils enjoy learning about a wide range of “exciting” subjects, and rated the school “good” in every aspect.

To reach the top standard of “outstanding”, they said, the school must give children more opportunities to develop writing skills in topic-based work.

They also said the school should be more consistent in teaching mathematics through problem-solving and investigation in other subjects.

Headteacher Ruth Nye said: “The school is very pleased with the report and I would like to thank our dedicated and hardworking staff, governors and parents.

“I am also extremely proud of the pupils, whose enthusiasm for learning and good behaviour impressed the inspector.”

With 60 pupils aged four to 11, inspectors said the school was much smaller than average.

Their report said pupils worked hard and their behaviour and attitudes “help them to learn”.

They also wrote that pupils were proud of the school and their achievements, and felt safe at school.

They added that the vast majority of parents expressed satisfaction with and confidence in the work of the school.
