A planning appeal relating to a proposed care home which could be built at the former Wantage police station and magistrates court began yesterday.

Vale of White Horse District Council rejected plans to build 45 sheltered flats for the elderly in August, saying it would cause “substantial harm” to the character of Wantage Town Centre Conservation Area.

Churchill Retirement Living appealed against the decision and yesterday a government planning inspector began hearing both sides at Abingdon Guildhall.
