A CALL for more volunteers to help with Wantage and Grove Girl Guides may have been answered.

Leaders from the Wantage and Grove girlguiding groups set up shop at The Mix in Mill Street, Wantage, on Saturday to call for more volunteers.

They laid out tea and cakes and showcased girlguiding skills like putting up tents at the pop-up shop from 9am until 5pm.

Leaders of the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers were on hand to answer questions about how to get involved.

They were looking for more volunteer leader to help with long waiting lists for the groups.

Fourth Wantage Guides leader Clare Bristow, who organised the event, said: “It went really well, we had quite a lot of visitors.

“We had displays of photos and things to show people the exciting things girl guides get up to, and the tents were quite popular with little kids going in and out of them.

“We had about six who showed an interest with helping out to volunteer.”

There is a waiting list of about 20 children to join the Rainbows group, for five- to seven-year-olds.
