Dreadful news, condolences to the family of the motorcyclist.

That road is so bad, maybe it is time for the average speed check on this stretch.

Where dies it say speed caused the accident?? You all jump to the same conclusion that speed is the problem!

People use the A4074 as a race track..I've had several V signs from drivers when driving a lorry along there at 40: The legal limit for lorries. Not saying the motorcyclist was to blame but many race along that stretch to and from the cafe at Berinsfield roundabout. Talking of which the Berinsfield-Dorchest
er stretch of road is built at DCway width so perhaps it should have a barrier put down the middle and the lanes redone as duals?

It is a dangerous road and speed might be a factor. Anything to slow down traffic will help reduce incidents, and though I loathe sp££d cam£ras, an average speed camera would really help on this stretch.

I also agree that stretch is wide enough to be dualled (or just barriered) to stop head-ons.

Whatever it is, that useless bunch at OCC should do something.

My thoughts are with the young family in the car, who will live with this for a very long time.

This particular section of the road has become very dangerous since the Benson Lane junction was altered a few years ago. I think someone needs to look carefully at this part of the road and the way it was altered.

Agreed. At least part of the problem is that they have placed traffic islands before each of the junctions there, meaning if someone pulls out in front of you (which happens often at Benson Lane, because of the poor visibility), you can no longer move into the hatched central area to avoid them.

And for those braying for average speed cameras, they don't catch motorcyclists as they have no front numberplate. What is really needed is more traffic police to stop anyone using this road as a race track, not indiscriminate yellow boxes.

I drive past the scene on my way to work everyday and have had cars pull out on me on several occasions while I have been in the car. It is right by Benson airfield.
Having been involved in an accident while on my motorbike where a car pulled across me and had the same thing happen to a mate I have no sympathy for the car driver or any of his family a person DIED because of the driver. When will people look when pulling out of junctions and not just glance.
Bikers are facing increacing legislation to make them more visible but I was on a sidecar outfit and my mate had his headlight on and both accidents still happened.

Where does it say the car pulled out infront?

If you knew the junction you would know the answer. Also where does it say speed was a factor.

i feel very sorry for the family in the car and for the family of the biker. This has happened to me, but i must stress it wasnt my fault. bikers were racing and one lost control and slid right out and hit my car - crossing my lane. to be fair, people jump to conclusions because this stretch of road is so often used as a racetrack. I've first hand experience of watching a biker pull a wheelie in excess of 60mph whilst riding down the hatched white lines. sadly these kind of things slur the names of all riders on this road. in fairness though ive also been overtaken by cars going well over 60. like others have said, time for better junctions and central reservations?

Where does it say it was the fault of the car driver? Motorcyclists (not necessarily this poor guy), regularly tailgate car drivers along here, allowing inches before shooting out to overtake. It's far too early for anyone to start blaming the car driver or the biker.

The car driver was taken to hospital after the accident which to me points to the impact being on the drivers door, only achieved by pulling out not tailgating. Agreed its too early to blame the car driver so say no more until more details are available but bet I'm right.

exFJRbiker how can you be so heartless? the car driver had no intention to kill the biker? no doubt the biker was speeding.

You do not know he was speeding or that it was the drivers fault. However you spend 2 months off work recovering and in pain from a motorbike/car accident and see how you feel when you here of something like this. It is a life changing experience.

"No doubt" is rich, probably coming from a mamber of the green party who wants us all to walk everywhere.

As a biker with a very powerful bike i stick to the speed limits EVERYWHERE, yes there are bike riders who dont, just like car drivers who dont, but to say the biker was speeding is a nonsense.

Time to review what you write before you submit i think.

Sorry to have to say this but the motorcyclist was my cousin. He's been riding for many years and was a sensible man. I agree that the driver didn't intend to cause an accident, however, please stop blaming my cousin, who has lost his life and will be missed by many.

What a load of crock,Speed cameras only "click"when you have gone past them, they dont take photos of ANY front number plates, car or bike,so what difference does it make if you havent got one,of course bikes get caught by speed cameras.

An "average speed camera" isn't the same as a standard speed camera. These are two separate cameras that check how long it takes to drive the distance between them.
