A DEVELOPER will submit a planning application for 380 homes and a new primary school near Winterbrook, Wallingford, within six weeks.
Berkeley Homes wants to build a new housing estate linking to the Wallingford bypass, a replacement for St John’s School, and an extra-care facility for elderly residents.
Last year, the developer said it wanted to build 500 homes on the site, but managing director Rameen Firoozan said the number had been reduced because of the public’s opposition.
He said: “We have been working on this now for quite a number of years.
“There was a general consensus that there was too many houses in there, so we have gone away and reduced it.”
Pedestrians, buses and emergency vehicles would be able to enter the site via land where fellow developer Wates wants to build another 100 homes.
The planning application will be submitted within six weeks, before South Oxfordshire District Council has decided where, and how many, new homes should be built in the town.
Wallingford Mayor Bernard Stone said: “My big concern is that the proposed houses would not connect easily with the town.”
The developer outlined its proposals at a public exhibition in St Mary-le-More Church on Thursday.
