A BURST pipe left some Wallingford residents without water for more than 12 hours.

Thames Water workers were called out yesterday evening after 250 people in the OX10 area reported a water shortage.

The water provider warned customers of the problem on its Twitter page at about 7pm, reporting that a pipe had burst in Wantage Road.

Some homes were completely cut off, while others experienced low water pressure.

Thames Water provided bottled water to residents at three pick-up points around the town.

Engineers worked overnight to fix the pipe, which was eight inches in diameter, and finished repairs at 7am this morning.

Thames Water spokeswoman Becky Trotman said: “We are sorry to those people who had no water or lower pressure than normal due to our burst water pipe on Wantage Road.

"Our engineers worked through the night to pump extra water into our pipes to keep disruption to water supplies to a minimum, meaning the majority of customers had their water back on by 5.30am this morning."

She said the system was operating normally again by 9.30am.
