IT measures just 3ft across and 9ft tall but villagers in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, near Wallingford, say their art gallery is poetry in motion. They have transformed a traditional red phone box into a pop-up art space, and its latest exhibition marked National Poetry Day.
Mum-of-three Alison Debney – 42, who lives in the village with husband Jason, 45, and children Thomas, five, Florence, three and six-month-old Beatrice – runs the gallery. She said: “Villagers love it but we also get lots of walkers coming through who often stop and take a look too.
“The red phone box is such an iconic design, you can’t help but notice it.
“Only two people can go in at a time, although we have squeezed in six schoolchildren. It’s a great space to show work from local artists and a window into our village. We think it must be Oxfordshire’s smallest art space.”
