WALLINGFORD is to mark its association with the Queen of Crime at the first ever Agatha Christie Weekend, to be held from September 19 to 21.
The event, held in conjunction with neighbouring Cholsey, will see a series of exhibitions at the Wallingford Museum, a showing of the 1974 film version of Murder on the Orient Express and a walking tour and mystery trail.
A talk on Britain’s obsession with murder by chief curator of Royal Historic Palaces and TV historian Lucy Worsley has sold out.
Wallingford museum curator Judy Dewey said it was time the crime writer, who lived in the town for more than 40 years and is buried at St Mary’s Church in Cholsey, was celebrated.
She said: “She was a very private person. This was somewhere private where she could live with her husband. The people of Wallingford and Cholsey have respected that for a long time but now people who were actually involved with her are no longer alive.”
