POWER has now been returned to more than 1,000 homes across Oxfordshire that were hit with powercuts this morning.

Residents in Faringdon were affected when a third party contractor accidentally damaged an underground cable at 10am.  Engineers from SSE have now been able to repair the cable and electricity has been restored.

In Longworth, a broken fuse left 21 people without power in the early hours of the morning. SSE Engineers replaced the component at the substation at 4.40am, but this blew again around 6am, leaving the 21 residents without power once again.

A spokesperson from SSE said: “Our engineers worked to get the power back on as quickly as they could. They were able to restore the majority of customers in Longworth by 2.30pm and customers in Faringdon by 1pm. We apologise to everyone who has been affected.”
