A FIRE ripped through a Great Milton home and needed 30 firefighters to put it out.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the detached house just after 5pm yesterday, where a fire had started at the rear of the property and quickly moved into the roof.

At its peak six, fire engines and a specialist incident support vehicle were at the scene.

Initial crews attacked the fire from outside the building and further crews entered wearing breathing apparatus to stop it spreading to the rest of the house.

Nobody was hurt during the incident and the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Group manager Rob MacDougall said: "The initial crews had to make some quick decisions on how to tackle the fire. They were good decisions and they have reduced the overall impact of this incident.

"Our crews have shown great professionalism and determination to make sure the fire was dealt with and the owner’s property was salvaged. They have done a brilliant job.

"If this warm weather continues, people need to be extra vigilant and should consider our summer fire safety advice’.

Most crews had left by 9pm but inspections continued throughout the night.

The service had refused to release any details about the incident yesterday when asked by the Oxford Mail.
