Flags fly to mark Armed Forces Day
10:40am Friday 29th June 2012 in Countywide
FLAGS will be raised across the county for tomorrow’s Armed Forces Day.
A ceremony to mark the hoisting of a flag will take place from 2pm at County Hall in Oxford’s New Road.
Representatives from the Oxford University Officers Training Corps will raise the flag in the presence of the Tim Stevenson, the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, and the county council chairman Don Seale.
In Banbury, soldiers will march up Parsons Street, via Horsefair and High Street, to Broad Street from 11.30am.
The market place will also feature stalls and display stands.
At Fritwell, near Bicester, the village hall is hosting a celebratory high tea during the afternoon. The event, featuring tea ladies dressed in Edwardian costume, will run from noon until 5pm at the East Street venue.
In Abingdon, home of Dalton Barracks, a flag is flying above County Hall having been unveiled by 7 Rifles soldiers earlier this week.
