BUS operator Thames Travel is making major changes to its services next week, with new timetables, revised routes and extra services being added to its network.

Many of the changes, which come into effect from Monday, follow a county council review of services it subsidises in South Oxfordshire.

Thames Travel will take over from the current operators of routes 114 (Wallingford-Berinsfield-Abingdon), 115 (Oxford-Dorchester), 116 (Oxford to Berinsfield and Abingdon), 142 (Checkendon-Woodcote-Reading) and the 600 Headington hospitals park-and-ride service in Oxford, between Thornhill and the Churchill Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

Thames Travel’s current 132 (Wallingford-RAF Benson) and 139 (Wallingford-Henley) routes will be combined to operate between Wallingford and Henley via Benson and RAF Benson, while the 36 and X36 Wantage-Didcot services are revised and extended to run to and from Wallingford via Brightwell-cum-Sotwell.

Minor changes will be made to timetables on routes 32 (Grove-Harwell-Didcot-Abingdon), X39/X40 (Oxford-Wallingford-Reading), 94/95 (Didcot-Blewbury), 101 and 106 (Wallingford-Oxford) and 136 (Wallingford-Cholsey).

Thames Travel’s general manager Max McCarthy said: “We are making the changes to meet increasing demand and to take account of passengers’ feedback.

“We realise that many of the changes are only minor ones but every journey matters to our passengers and to us.”
