ONE of the speediest celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee can be seen on railway routes through Oxfordshire.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the monarch’s accession to the throne in 1952, train operator First Great Western has decorated one of its 125mph High Speed Train power cars in a special livery.
A team at FGW’s Laira depot in Plymouth applied the livery, using adhesive vinyl sheets, to power car 43186, which is now back in service and could turn up almost anywhere on FGW’s express network, including Didcot Parkway and Oxford.
Gavin Payne, contracts engineer at Laira depot, said: “The speed at which these guys can wrap and paint a train is incredible. And it looks fantastic too. Being able to join the country as we celebrate 60 years of the Queen as monarch, and hopefully be able to bring a smile as the quirky design passes through stations, is awesome.”
