THE county’s music education service is set to team up with other local organisations to make sure every child has the chance to sing or play a musical instrument.

Oxfordshire County Music Service was yesterday announced as a new music education hub by the Arts Council.

The service will team up with professional music organisations, higher and further education institutions and other Arts Council-funded organisations to ensure there is joined-up music education provision across Oxfordshire.

Culture Minister and MP for Wantage Ed Vaizey said: “These hubs will mean young people around the country can access high quality music teaching, itself an important and fulfilling part of learning.”

The 122 new hubs across the country were selected following an application process to the Arts Council and they are expected to be able to deliver their new services from September.

According to the Arts Council, Oxfordshire County Music Service was able to demonstrate a “robust leadership model” and an excellent track record for delivering music education. It will now get a slice of the £50m extra funding set aside by the Department for Education for music education hubs.
