WHEN Dictynna Hood was growing up in Oxfordshire she loved the outdoor life and the freedom she experienced roaming the country lanes.

Now she has used memories of her childhood in the county as inspiration for a new film called Wreckers which has won critical reviews.

The movie, starring Sherlock Holmes actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Shaun Evans who plays a young Inspector Morse in the new TV series Endeavour, and Claire Foy, who trained at the Oxford School of Drama, premiered at the London Film Festival in October 2010 and recently came out on DVD.In a special screening on Monday at the Phoenix Cinema in Walton Street, Oxford, Ms Hood, who wrote and directed the film, will take part in a question and answer session about the psychological drama.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy play young couple Dave and Dawn who move to the countryside to do up an old house in the village that Dave grew up in.

All is well until Dave’s brother Nick, played by Mr Evans, returns from Afghanistan.

Ms Hood, 49, who now lives in London, said she was delighted by the critical acclaim her debut film received when it came out on limited release across the UK in December.

The former Oxford High School pupil added that the open countryside around her childhood home in Great Milton, near Thame, was part of the inspiration for her story.

She said: “I had a lot of freedom growing up in the country and we used to roam around in the fields and the lanes. My parents still live in Great Milton, so I am in the area quite a lot and I have friends living in Charlbury.”

l The movie starts at 6.15pm and will be followed by the Q&A session. For details, visit picturehouses.co.uk
