A ROUTE map of Sir Winston Churchill's funeral and other ceremonial details have sold at auction for £400.

The folder full of documents was bought by an online bidder in the UK at an auction in Surrey this afternoon.

Together, the half-century old papers chart the wartime prime minister's final journey from St Paul's Cathedral in London to his final resting place in Bladon, West Oxfordshire in January 1965.

They also reveal that the codename given to the state funeral was 'Operation Not Hope'.

Churchill was born at Blenheim Palace, a few miles from Bladon, in 1874.

The funeral folder, titled Her Majesty's Service, was found by the family of an unnamed man involved in the funeral arrangements during his police service who has since died.

At the same event today a Clarice Cliff Churchill Toby jug dating from around 1940 was sold for £1,300.

Only 350 were ever produced.

Auctioneer Catherine Southon said: "Churchill is undoubtedly one of the most important politicians of the 20th century and he had been admired by people around the globe, making his funeral one of the biggest events in post-war history."
