NATURE lovers in Oxfordshire are being urged to perform "random acts of wildness" every day in June as part of the annual "30 Days Wild" campaign.

The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) is urging people to "lie in the long grass and count the clouds", "go outside at sunset" or "jump in a big puddle".

The month-long campaign encourages people to spend more time in natural environments on the basis that "all our lives are better when we're connected to nature".

Pre-teen wildlife blogger Alex White from Appleton joined last year's campaign and urged others to go green this June.

The 12-year-old said: "At first it was a bit of a struggle having to think of something new to do every day, but it got really exciting and we started to think of loads of ideas.

"As it got easier I found that I wanted to spend more time outdoors – when it came to the end of June I didn’t want to stop.

"This year I want to get people from school involved: I found it really fun and inspiring, and I want to share that with people in my class."

More than 18,500 people took part in last year's 30 Days Wild across the UK and carried out around 300,000 "random acts of wildness".

The Nature Connectedness Research Group at the University of Derby surveyed participants during and after last year’s campaign and reported that people felt "significantly healthier and happier" at the time and months after the challenge had finished.
