A POSSIBLE future champion of The Great British Bake Off won her primary school's version of the competition.

Year three Eva Banks creamed the competition in the contest at Charlton Primary School, Wantage.

More than 80 pupils at the school joined the baking fun on Saturday, April 30, and helped raise funds for the school.

Children could enter creations in seven categories including cakes themed around children's books and movies.

Eva won the Star Baker award for her Shrek-inspired sponge cake and said she was "chuffed to bits".

The school's first family bake off was arranged by the Parent Teacher Association and inspired by the popular BBC show hosted by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.

Adam Smith, the PTA organiser, began planning the event at the start of the year. He said: "We are always looking for new ways to raise money for the school, this has been a lot of fun. I am only disappointed that I was not judging, and getting the opportunity to eat my way through nearly 100 cakes."

Judges including Wantage Mayor St.John Dickson rated cakes based on their appearance, taste, texture and effort.

Head teacher Steven Rose said: "The children were very excited to have their own baking competition.

"It was also a great opportunity to bring families together in the kitchen, having fun and learning new skills: following and reading recipes, measuring ingredients, learning about safe food hand and importantly, having fun."

After the competition was over, all cakes and bakes were sold to raise money for the school.
