IT IS a show designed for families, but will audiences get a shock with a naked emperor on stage? That is the secret being hidden by Kingston Bagpuize Drama Group, who are staging The Emperor’s New Clothes this week.

Based on the fairy tale, it tells of a vain emperor who cares about nothing but his clothes and his appearance.

Two “weavers” trick him and his court into believing they can make magic cloth which is visible only to those who are wise.

Group chairman Rob Bateman said audiences should not be concerned by the prospect of nudity. He said: “This is very much a family show designed to entertain old and young alike and we hope it will get audiences in the mood for the festive season. Absolutely nobody will be offended.”

Performances continue at Southmoor village hall until tomorrow.
