HEAVY rain is set to hit Oxfordshire today, but the county will be warming up just in time for a sunny Bank Holiday weekend.

Spokesman for the Met Office, Dan Williams said: “Although Tuesday will get off to a bright start with sunny spells all across the county, it will be wet for the rest of the day, unfortunately.

“Heavy rainfall is expected throughout the afternoon, hence the yellow weather warning, and there will only be highs of 17 degrees.”

By contrast, the Met Office is predicting highs of 20 degrees tomorrow with some prolonged periods of sunshine during the afternoon.

Mr Williams said: “Although it may rain the morning, it should be dry after 12pm so people can go and enjoy the sun and temperatures of 20 degrees, which are about average for this time of year.”

Thursday and Friday are also expected to be warmer, with temperatures around 18 or 19 degrees, Mr Williams said: “The county will be welcoming in the Bank Holiday with some sunshine on Thursday and Friday although there will be some cloud overhead.

“The weekend also looks as if it will be reasonably warm and dry, but it may well be pretty cloudy on both Saturday and Sunday.”
