OXFORDSHIRE is facing a snowy Sunday, according to the Met Office.

Although Tuesday's threatened snow hardly eventuated, forecasters are predicting a cold weekend with the odd bit of light snow on Saturday and heavy snowfall in parts on Sunday.

It'll drop down to around -1degC over night tonight in Oxford and you are likely to wake to light snowfall. Sunday is forecast to see light snowfall throughout the day.

Out west, Witney and Chipping Norton are forecast to see snow in the morning tomorrow. Sunday sees a forecast of light snow in Witney, with it being heavier in the morning in Chippy.

Bicester and Banbury are predicted to see some snow as you wake tomorrow through to about 10am. Sunday morning is likely to see heavy snowfall in the morning, lessening in the afternoon and evening.

The south of the county is predicted to be least likely affected.

Saturday is not likely to see any of the white stuff, apart from the odd bit of sleet. Abingdon and Didcot may see heavy snowfall around the morning and lunchtime on Sunday, decreasing during the afternoon and evening. The forecasters are saying Wantage will see less snow on Sunday than its southern sister towns.

The longer term forecast for the country from the Met Office is: "Cloud and rain, sleet or snow will gradually spread in from the west during Tuesday, with the risk of some snow accumulations inland, and heavy rain in the southwest [of the UK].

"However, eastward progression of this system is uncertain, with eastern parts likely staying drier and brighter. It will also become windier, with gales on exposed coasts, and cold overnight with frost possible.

"Wednesday and Thursday should remain cold, with wintry showers, although these will gradually ease, with sheltered western parts turning drier. Rain remains most likely across the south, with central parts at greatest risk of seeing some snowfall."
