CHERWELL and West Oxfordshire district councils offered their support to fire-hit counterparts in South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse after yesterday's devastating blaze at the councils' Crowmarsh Gifford headquarters.

West Oxfordshire leader Barry Norton said: “The whole community of Oxfordshire will undoubtedly be saddened to hear of this incident. We are thankful that no-one was injured and have every faith in the resilience of our colleagues at both South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse councils.

He added: “Both I and our chief executive have contacted our counterparts at both councils to offer support and we will, of course, provide this wherever possible.”

Cherwell spokesman Tony Ecclestone said: “Cherwell District Council has been in touch with South Oxfordshire District Council to offer support following this morning’s fire and we are awaiting their response.”
