SATURDAY

1. Former MP for Henley and current Mayor of London Boris Johnson will be signing copies of his new book The Churchill Factor at Blackwell’s Book Shop, Broad Street, between 12.30pm and 2pm.

2. Richard Adams, author of Watership Down, will also be at Blackwell’s to sign new editions of Watership Down and Shardik will then be there from 4pm.

3. Homeless charity The Gatehouse will be hosting a benefit concert at St Giles Church, Woodstock Road. The concert will run from 7pm until 10pm and will feature Oxfordshire acts such as Trio Copacabana and Bethany Weimars. The concert is free but donations for The Gatehouse will be requested. Drinks and refreshments will also be available during the concert.

4. The Cathedral Singers of Christ Church will be performing their annual Christmas by Candlelight concert between 8pm and 10pm. The concert will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, St Aldate’s and tickets are available for £12.

SUNDAY

5. Talented young musicians including the Oxford Spires Academy choir and the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra will be performing at the Lord Mayor’s annual Christmas carol service. The event will begin at 2.30pm in the main hall of Oxford Town Hall and tickets are available for £2 at the Town Hall reception. All money raised by the event will go the Lord Mayor’s charities.

6. Bicester will host its annual 5k Santa Fun Run, which will start at Pingle Field at 10.30am. Around 250 runners will complete the 5k course in Bicester, all dressed as Father Christmas. Money raised by participants will be split between the Army Benevolent Fund, Bicester Hospital’s League of Friends and the Hummingbird Cancer Support and Therapy Centre.

MONDAY

Pantomime Cinderella Green the Recycling Queen will be performed at St. Hilda’s College, Cowley Place. The play tells the story of Cinderella with an environmental twist and includes puppets and sing-a-longs. The show will be performed at 10.30am, 2pm and 4.30pm. Tickets are £7 and available from the Oxford Playhouse.

TUESDAY

Oxford City Council Scrutiny Committee will decide the fate of Temple Cowley Pools at a special meeting at 10am in the Town Hall. The City Executive Board have recommended the sale of the pools to developers, against the wishes of community campaigners.

WEDNESDAY

The last day of the Headington Live Advent will see the Christmas song singalong at the Co-op in London Road. 11am.
