County firefighters were on strike yesterday in support of the national Fire Brigades Union’s battle with the Government over pension reforms .

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said last night it had dealt with no major call-outs, only two alarms.

Oxfordshire County Council said: “A mixture of non-striking full-time personnel and on-call staff provided cover in Oxfordshire during the strike.”

The local Fire Brigades Union said striking staff would return to work if a serious incident occurred.

Firefighters were on strike for 24 hours and the action will end today at 9am.
