CHILDREN across the county have just over a week left to enter an art competition that could see their work on show outside one of Oxford’s fast-rising buildings.

‘Window on Another World’ – organised by Oxford University Press (OUP), the Blavatnik School of Government and construction firm Laing O’Rourke – challenges youngsters to imagine “looking through a window into another world.

Up to 12 winners will have their work displayed at the Blavatnik site in Walton Street, receive books from OUP and the overall winner will get an Apple iPad Mini.

The competition was inspired by Summertown-based illustrator Korky Paul, who came to the groups after seeing windows through hoarding around the construction site.

The creator of children’s book character Winnie the Witch and her black cat Wilbur had their images painted on the wall around the site.

He said: “I was going to a meeting and saw thee holes through the walls and it gave me an idea.

“The idea at first was just to have Winnie and Wilbur painted on the holes but it has really mushroomed from there.”

On Monday Mr Paul visited St Barnabas School, in Jericho, close to the Blavatnik.

He added: “I have been here quite a few times actually because St Barnabas was the first school I ever visited and I also have close links with OUP [based nearby], which publishes my books.”

The competition has two categories, Reception to Year 2 (ages four to seven) and Years 3 to 6 (ages seven to 11). Entries should be made on an A4 sheet of white paper and can be made using felt tip pen, crayon, paint, or coloured pencil.

The closing date is November 28.

Entries should be posted to Window on the World Competition, Oxford Children’s Book Department, Oxford University Press, Oxford, OX2 6DP.
