FIREFIGHTERS attended one incident in Oxfordshire during last night’s strike.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire alarm that was a false alarm in Thame’s High Street.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union went on strike between 11pm and 1am as part of their ongoing dispute with central government about pay and conditions.

During this strike Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service provided cover with a mixture of non-striking staff and on-call volunteers meaning 17 of the county’s fire engines were available.

During another strike yesterday – between 11am and 1pm – the fire service attended three incidents: a false alarm at sheltered housing in Oxford, a person trapped in a lift at the Bicester branch of Sainsbury’s and a traffic accident on the A4183 at Sunningwell.

Firefighters are next due to go on strike at 5pm today for two hours.
