Part of a major road through Oxfordshire is to close for seven weeks this summer while it is repaired.

Oxfordshire County Council has said the A420 at Shrivenham is “worn out”.

It will be closed between the Watchfield Roundabout and the Lower Bourton junction from July 21 while work is done to rebuild the road and replace safety barriers.

The council has said it will introduce measures to prevent through traffic from using unsuitable local roads, but has not said what these are.

During the closure, the council recommends those going to Swindon use the A34 and M4 while local traffic uses the A417 east, A4185 south, A34 south and M4 west.
