WOODSTOCK care home residents have been making felt and jewellery as part of a scheme to encourage creativity.

Oxfordshire artist Helen Jacobs visited residents at Spencer Court, in Union Street, to introduce them to different crafts.

The project, called Taking Part, was launched by West Oxfordshire District Council in 2010 and aims to give people the opportunity to access workshops and activities.

So far 28 groups have taken part in activities including ceramics, dance, singing, sculpture, and poetry.

Spencer Court resident Audrey Scott said: “This has been very satisfying. You feel like you have achieved something, which is good.”

Linda Young, Spencer Court activity coordinator, said: “The residents have really, really loved it and have got very involved.

“As well as doing something enjoyable and rewarding, it has given them stimulation and the chance to use their expressive skills.”

Richard Langridge, district council cabinet member with responsibility for arts, said: “The council is committed to increasing leisure and cultural opportunities for our residents and Taking Part is an exciting, inclusive project which reaches out to people who may not otherwise have the chance to get involved in these activities.

“The project has gone from strength to strength and the feedback we receive is extremely positive.”
