Chef defends eating horse

Chef Raymond Blanc has defended the eating of horsemeat.

M Blanc, who owns Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons restaurant in Great Milton, advocated eating the meat in the Mail on Sunday newspaper.

M Blanc said: “I was raised in France on a diet that included horse. My mother had five hungry mouths to feed, we were poor and horse was the cheapest of meats.”

He was writing after horse DNA was found in beefburgers sold by Tesco.
