Big freeze on its way but more snow unlikely

TEMPERATURES are set to plummet to -6C this week but Oxfordshire may be spared more snow, forecasters have warned this afternoon.

Charles Powell, Met Office forecaster, said this morning’s snow should be the last flurry Oxfordshire sees this week.

Earlier forecasters said Oxfordshire could be in for three more days of snow.

Daily temperatures this week are expected to reach no more than 4C in the county.

Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Owen Morton said gritters will continue to be out and about as the cold snap continues.

NO, NO, NO, it can't be right, only two stories down you are telling us that we will be blanketed with snow for the next three days. What next, a new story in 30 minutes telling us to expect a heatwave?

Perhaps if we get floods again the OM will trigger a tsunami warning for Oxford.

More quality local journalism! Do the people who write these stories actually read their own newspaper/website!?

Given that the Met Office and BBC weather have been reporting all day that there would be no more snow in the next three days for Oxfordshire, could someone from the Oxford Mail please say which forecasters DID predict snow as per the previous Mail piece on the weather?

The Mail seems happy to name Charles Powell. Be good to know who said we'd have blanket snow for three days.

It's all rather farsical - instead of news, regional newspapers are trying to peddle sensationalism - 'Cold Snow' in Winter, and either 'droughts and too hot' or 'floods and too wet' in Summer! We have become addicted to 24hr tv news coverage around the globe, when we no longer have a world-dominating Empire, and when we do actually get a 'proper Winter' the buses, trains and planes can no longer cope with such intrusion of our controlled society - though in may parts oc Oxford, some bus operators can't even cope when it's dry, let alone flooded or snowbound! Fact is that because of the UK's geographical location, our weather systems are always changing faster than weather gurus can predict, and which at least enables most Brits to do what we like best - complain and moan about the weather, and then holiday in Spain, Greece or Florida for lots of hot sunshine and guaranteed suntan for our wrinkly-baked bodies!
