Grants from 'chill-out fund' ready to be decided
7:10am Monday 7th January 2013 in Countywide
MORE than £12,000 could be dished out to community groups by Oxfordshire County Council.
Applications to the authority’s “chill-out fund” total £12,264.96, but officers have recommended cabinet member for the voluntary sector Louise Chapman gives out just £7,400.
The Oxford Association of Young People (OAYP) wants £2,500 for its Oxfordshire Youth Awards event, and Mrs Chapman has been urged by officers to give them the full amount.
The Oxford Sudanese Community Youth and Kids Club has applied for £4,914.96 to support the general running of the club.
But council officer Ruth Ashwell said the authority should only match existing funding for the organisation.
She said: “This seems like a valuable club for young people and I suggest providing the £50 matched funding.”
Washinkai Karate Oxford wants £4,850 to teach young people with disabilities karate, and officers have recommended that the full amount is granted.
Mrs Chapman will meet with officers at County Hall today to make her decisions in public.
She can still decide to overrule officers’ recommendations, so the final grant amounts will not be known until after the meeting.
