THE motoring and motorsport writer for the Oxford Mail has been named the best in the UK for the third year running. David Duffy, who lives in Witney, was chosen as the Guild of Motoring Writers’ regional motoring journalist of the year.

He has been writing about motoring for more than 30 years and has previously received a special award from the Guild of Motoring Writers.

Mr Duffy said: “Just to be in the company of the cream of British motoring personalities is a real honour. I love driving, I love cars and I love the freedom that they can bring. To be recognised for writing about something that you have a passion for is really pleasing.”

He was presented with the award by Andy Wertheim, general communications manager for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, which sponsored the regional writers’ award.

Another award winner at the ceremony, held at the guild’s annual dinner at the RAC Club, in Pall Mall, London, was Patrick Head, engineering director of the Williams Formula One team at Grove, who was presented with the President’s Trophy.

Freelance journalist Ian Wagstaff, from Chinnor, won the Mercedes-Benz Award for the Montagu of Beaulieu Trophy for a biography of racing mechanic Tony Robinson.
