Oxford Nursery pupils encourage parents to shell out for a good cause at festival

NURSERY pupils encouraged parents to shell out for a good cause at a harvest festival with a difference.

The Oxford Nursery teamed up with The African Children’s Fund for a bumper crop of green events.

Children including 21-month-old Maxine Van Wilson, helped make wholesome vegetable soup which they sold to parents at the end of the day, culminating in a performance of songs by the children dressed up as peas in a pod.

Four-year-old Tom Rowe, who attends the Summertown nursery, said: “The best bit about the whole day was singing Five Fat Peas with my friend Ruben – that bit was really fun.

“But I am lucky because I love peas – I eat them all the time at home.”

Tamsyn Wymer of The African Children’s Fund, based in Longworth, said the charity had joined forces with the nursery staff, pupils and parents for the harvest festivals, raising nearly £200 for pre-school children in Kimara, Tanzania.
