Community spirit flowers in unlikely places

EAST Oxford residents have been putting their food waste to good use.

The people of Southfield Road are making their street more attractive with the help of Oxfordshire’s recycling team.

Working with support from Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire Waste Partnership, the residents have planted a series of ‘tree pits’ in the chicanes along the road with flowers and bulbs.

The compost was provided by Chipping Norton-based Agrivert, which processes the county’s food and garden waste.

Volunteer Maggie Lloyd said: “Our road is a busy one and sometimes feels dangerous.

“We hope that putting plants in special containers around our trees will demonstrate to local residents how the compost produced from our old garden and food waste can help to make our road more attractive and calmer for everyone.”

To be fair Andrew they've been voicing concerns about the traffic for many year, before the CPZ was introduced.

It was presumably these concerns which led to the chicanes being installed in the first place, which must have been before 1999.
