Goalkeeper Jamie Leach held on to his catch after he and wife-to-be Kate Harvey tied the knot thanks to The Oxford Mail.

Miss Harvey, 25, and Mr Leach, 27, wed at Oxford Town Hall on Saturday after triumphing in this paper’s Win Your Wedding contest.

The pair beat competition from 33 other couples to win their dream day worth £12,000.

More than 8,000 votes were cast by Oxford Mail readers with Miss Harvey and Mr Leach winning with 1,862 votes.

Everything from the bride’s dress to flowers, photography and honeymoon flights were laid on for the happy couple thanks to county firms.

Visual merchandiser Miss Harvey said: “I’m the luckiest girl alive — it has been a fantastic day, better than I ever could have imagined it to be.

“We were so lucky to win the prize. All the sponsors have been fantastic.”

Electrician Mr Leach, goalkeeper for Freeland FC, West Oxfordshire, added: “It’s a fantastic prize and we are over the moon. Kate is definitely my best ever catch.

“I missed out on a couple of games when we were preparing for the wedding but it was definitely worth it.”

Among the 80 guests were the happy couple’s parents and Miss Harvey’s sister Sophie Harvey, who nominated them and was chief bridesmaid.

Mr Leach’s wedding ring was a platinum band while Miss Harvey’s was an 18-carat gold eternity ring studded with diamonds.

Beauty therapist Miss Harvey, 29, said: “I could not be happier if it was me getting married.

“I never imagined Kate and Jamie would get picked after I put them forward — it’s a dream come true.”

Kate’s dad Tim Harvey, 58, a BMW engineer from Botley, added: “We have been very lucky winning this competition and very lucky with the weather.

“It’s a great start in life for a young couple.”

After partying with 160 guests, the newlyweds spent their first night as a married couple at the Malmaison Hotel at Oxford Castle.

Today they jet off to Egypt for their honeymoon and will soon move into their new two-bedroom home in Long Hanborough.
