Mini workers vote to accept pay offer

WORKERS at the Mini plant have voted to accept the company’s latest pay offer.

Union members voted two to one in favour of the deal which will see them get a 4.5 per cent pay rise this year followed by 2.3 per cent in 2013.

Earlier this month they almost unanimously rejected an offer of a six per cent rise which came with an 11-minute cut to their tea breaks, prompting fears of industrial action.

Unite union regional officer Fred Hanna said: “It has been a good result — a done deal with no strings attached.

“There has been a sensible approach by the company and that has been reflected in the members’ vote.”
