Stepping up for Jane

First published in Oxford

A fundraising mission has begun in honour of a young woman who died suddenly from epilepsy.

Jane Swarbrick was 24 when collapsed unexpectedly on April 19 last year.

Her death was attributed to SUDEP, sudden unexplained death from epilepsy, and now her friends and family are raising awareness of the condition.

Well-wishers gathered in Cutteslowe Park in North Oxford, close to Jane’s childhood home, to kickstart a campaign to raise £20,000 for research linked to the Epilepsy Society and Wantage-based Epilepsy Bereaved.

A team of 23 of Jane’s friends and family will tackle the Blenheim Triathlon in June.

Her father Andy said: “Whether it was a trip to a far-flung destination, a new band, a great vegan café or an interesting person she had met at the pub, Jane loved life and would talk about it for hours. Yet tragically Jane lost her life despite good health to SUDEP aged just 24.”
