OXFORD: A man has been taken to hospital after a house fire in Cowley Road this evening.

Fire crews were called to the blaze near The Cape of Good Hope pub shortly before 6.30pm.

Yes, keeping the road closed until 11pm must have been necessary, otherwise they would not waste their time doing it!
Just be glad they got there and were able to complete their job safely!

ERR, when I got a cab up to the Exeter (for their usual excellent Curry) at about 8.30 Cowley Rd was open, although the house was totally gutted and the firemen were still inside when I returned just after midnight, but the road was open.

from what i've heard they don't usually close roads for false fire alarms, only when they find that there is actually a fire, east anglian was probably looking on the web and got wrong info, best he stay with his losing Ipswich and not bother us with his affairs.
