A TEENAGER raised cash for a Nigerian animal sanctuary by rowing down the Thames in Oxford dressed as a monkey.
Sam Hamilton-Peach, a 13-year-old boarder at St Edward’s School, Woodstock Road, rowed from Wolvercote to Folly Bridge on Saturday. He raised about £200 for the Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary which looks after a once-thought-extinct primate, the drill. There are thought to be only 400 drills left.
Sam said: “The sanctuary is not funded by the government, so it needs to be by us. Hopefully the money will go to the keepers and the drills, and ultimately so the primates can be released into the wild.”
Sam, who comes from Belgium, visited the sanctuary during his Easter holidays.
