Police divers search for stolen computer

UNDERWATER police divers scoured the Thames riverbed during an investigation into a theft.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with shoplifting after a computer was stolen from Staples, in Park End Street, Oxford, on Wednesday, February 24.

Pc Craig Newton is pictured climbing into the water while Pc Andy Clark and Sgt Simon Briggs assist. Pc Clark was among divers who searched the river at Osney yesterday morning in a bid to find the computer.

Police spokesman Chris Kearney said: “Inquiries led police to believe the stolen computer was abandoned in the River Thames.

“Unfortunately the divers did not find the computer but will return at another time for a second attempt.”

Police Community Support Officers were also at the riverbank near Arthur Road and East Street.

The 39-year-old man is on bail until Monday, March 22.

Anyone with information should call police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Rather an extreme and costly exercise for an item only worth perhaps a few hundred pounds?

Or is there rather more to this than just a simple shoplifting case?

What is wrong with you lot? the divers need to gain experiance so what is better doing it in some gravel pit or doing it with a target to look for.
You would all moan if they sat about doing nothing then when a child is missing were unable to respond due to lack of training!
Give police a break for all our sake.
