AN OXFORD surgeon is preparing to fly out to Haiti this weekend to help treat victims of the devastating earthquake.

Prof Chris Bulstrode, who is employed by Oxford University and works in the emergency department of the John Radcliffe Hospital, will fly out on Sunday with a team from Doctors of the World (Médecins du Monde) to spend three weeks in Haiti helping run mobile clinics.

Prof Bulstrode, 59, said: “I am absolutely terrified and worried because I want to be able to do a good job and it is unknown what it is going to be like.

“You can’t sit at home listening to the news in Haiti hearing about people having such a rough time and do nothing when you have got all this expertise.”

The father of three worked with Doctors of the World in Gaza last December, and has previously worked in Afghanistan and the Sudan.
