ANOTHER pupil at an Oxfordshire primary school has contracted swine flu.

Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust today confirmed a pupil at Church Cowley St James Primary School, in Oxford, had tested positive for the Influenza A (H1N1) virus.

The school will not be closing as the pupil did not show any symptoms while at school.

It was the 18th case in the county.

An Oxford chemist also tonight denied rumours it had shut because of swine flu.

The Lloyds Pharmacist, in Walton Street, was shut for most of the day yesterday because a locum pharmacist who had been due to work one day as holiday cover, called in to say she was unable to work.

A spokesman for Lloyds Pharmacy said: “The reason the pharmacy was closed due to staffing shortages after a locum pharmacist, booked to cover annual leave, phoned to say she was unable to work as her child was ill.”

Meanwhile, medical staff at the BMW plant in Cowley took swift action today after a member of staff said he might have been exposed to the disease.

BMW spokesman Rebecca Baxter said: “An associate in assembly was sent home as a precaution after his wife, who does not work at the plant, reported feeling flu-like symptoms.

“The associate, who was displaying no symptoms himself, immediately told his manager on coming into work. The plant’s medical centre sent the associate home where he will remain until further notice.

“As a precaution, the plant’s medical centre was closed for one hour to allow for thorough cleaning.

“Tests have been taken and as yet there is no confirmation of any symptoms relating to swine flu in the associate, nor his wife.”
