BIG-hearted bikers have set up a positive thinking website to wish a boy suffering from cancer well again.

Jake Spicer, 15, from Shepherd’s Hill, Greater Leys, was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2004.

Since then he has undergone treatment for the rare cancer Ewings Sarcoma, which affects bone and soft tissue, but his family have been told the latest treatment is not working.

Jake was made an honorary member of the Oxford Chapel of the Harley Davidson Owners’ Group in 2005.

To show support for their young friend, the members of the Oxford Chapel have launched the Power of Positive Thinking website, to send healing thoughts of hope and support to the young bike fanatic.

The site, which bears the message “Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall”, has so far attracted 99 members.

Russell Owen, from Wootton, who is a member of the Oxford chapter, said: “With Jake being an honorary member we have kind of taken him under our wing.

“He has been told by the doctors there is nothing more they can really do. One of our members was speaking to a nurse about a different matter and she told us about the power of positive thinking and we thought we’d try it.

“We just want to spur him on and let him know we’re all thinking of him and sending him good thoughts.

“I suppose we wanted to turn it into our own chinese-style proverb. If all our minds are thinking the same we can achieve great things.”

Jake’s mother, Lesley Spicer, said her son was too weak to check the website himself at the moment, but she had been letting him know about all the messages of support.

She added: “I’m a big believer in the power of positive thinking, and we’ve always stayed positive from the beginning. Jake’s a fighter and there’s no way he’s going to give up.

“We are really pleased the guys have set up the website.

“They’ve been so supportive to us, they’ve become like family. For Jake it’s heartening for him to know there are people from places like Australia and France sending him their wishes.

“I’m aware of his illness and how far it’s gone, but we do believe in miracles — we have to. We’ve fought for five years, we’re prepared to fight another five years.”

Among the members who have signed up to send healing thoughts to Jake, is Mike Taylor, from Perth, who wrote on the site guestbook: “Hey there Jake, how u doin' wee man — just thought I'd send this on to you to keep ur spirits on the up-and-up — we’re all rooting for you up here in Perth so you just hang in there li’l buddy.”

Phil Garner added: “All you should need to keep fighting this is the thought of one day riding your own Harley Davidson!”
