THE A34 has reopened in both directions and traffic is returning to normal after two crashes.
The incidents have caused extensive problems on Oxford's road network this afternoon.
A crash involving a small van and a car near the Peartree Interchange partially blocked the Western Bypass road northbound, causing 40 minute delays.
Congestion was reported up to the Botley Interchange.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue attended the scene after receiving reports a car was on fire but found that no fire service help was required.
David Gallagher, spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 14.12 this afternoon with the caller reporting a collision between a small van and a car on the A34 at Gosford, resulting in both drivers sustaining minor injuries.
"We sent a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the incident.
"One of the patients was taken to the John Radcliffe for further assessment and treatment and the other was treated at the scene."
A further crash up the road in Kidlington on the southbound carriageway added to the problems.
