DRIVERS had to endure 'hideous' delays during Oxford rush hour as emergency gas works continued in Woodstock Road.
Queues were tailing back this morning from temporary traffic lights near Squitchey Lane, past Wolvercote and Peartree roundabouts, all the way to Oxford Airport in Kidlington.

Emergency roadworks began at the junction on Friday as SGN gas company fixes a leak, and are expected to finish on Thursday.
An Oxford Mail reader said she had a 'hideous' journey to work and was crawling along the A44 for an hour.
Another hideous Monday journey to work. Been crawling down the A44 for over an hour now. Had to drive today - wish I was on my bike. It's only going to get worse with all the planned housing @TheOxfordMail what's anyone's plan?

Stagecoach Oxford said its S3 service from Chipping Norton to Oxford, which travels via Woodstock Road, was delayed by half an hour due to the roadworks.
SERVICE UPDATE: Due to the roadworks on the Woodstock Road all approach roads to Oxford from the north are very busy. Expect delays on all routes from this end of the city.

It added that most services travelling into the city from the north were affected.

Roadworks are also due to start today in neighbouring Banbury Road, which runs parallel to Woodstock Road, scheduled to finish on Wednesday.
According to roadworks.org, the Thames Water works will involve temporary traffic signals outside Cotswold Lodge Hotel, and are also likely to cause delays.
