A RALLYING cry has gone out to residents to join the newly created Friends of Bicester North station group.

The volunteer group is made up of Bicester Green Gym members, Wyevale Garden Centre staff and residents.

It set to work for the first time this month to weed and clear the 90-metre long flower bed on a Bicester North platform.

Now the group is looking to sign up more members to keep on top of the Bicester North gardens revamp, which hasn’t been tended to for since construction work in 2011.

Bicester Green Gym member, Bea Foster, said: “The whole area was in need of some TLC so we started weeding.

“It will need further visits before the renewal begins. Wyevale kindly donated their time and skills to landscape and re-plant the area.

“Bicester Green Gym will add extra labour and we hope that new people will want to come along and join us. The idea is that a new group will form, which will work to their own timetable, to keep the station looking good all year round.”

The next session will be staged on March 6.

Mrs Foster added: “We are hoping local arts or gardening groups may want to add decorative touches, perhaps in the form of sculpture, functional planters or bird feeders. We are inviting schools to design a logo for the new group."
