OXFORD City Stars have unveiled their very own one-off Christmas jersey.

The ice hockey side will play in the fun festive kit for their next match to raise money for Oxford Children's Hospital.

The club got special dispensation from the English National League for the players to don the Christmas jumper-themed kit for their home game against Lee Valley Lions on Sunday at the Oxpens ice rink.

During the match there will also be the mass ‘Teddy Throw’ where fans are encouraged to bring along teddies and soft toys and throw them on to the ice, where they are collected and given to sick children this Christmas.

Stars director Greig Box Turnbull said: “The club started this last year and it was really popular.

“It meant so much to the players to give a bit back, especially at Christmas, so much so that former player Shane Moore has organised this year’s fundraising.

“It has really galvanised the club and we decided to go a step further this year with the one-off Christmas jerseys to give our backing to a great cause and help raise more awareness of the great work the hospital does and also to raise more funds.”

Each player’s Christmas jersey will be auctioned off to help generate more money for Oxford Children’s Hospital.

Players will present a cheque to the hospital during a visit on December 19 – plus the toys collected from retailers and fans.

Law firm Max My Claim sponsored the unique kit.

Face off is at 6.15pm and tickets are free for all NHS staff who present their ID badge on the door.

Last year the Oxford City Stars raised more than £1,000 for the children's hospital and many patients enjoyed the game.
