EVERYONE felt the effects as an icy chill swept through Oxfordshire this week.

Schools were cancelled, businesses closed and transport chaotic.

But as the winter sun came out to brighten things up, camera club member Mark King captured the beauty of the season with this picture of icy cobbles in Merton Street.

Scores of budding photographers were quick to pull out their cameras and phones as soon as the snow started to fall but few have managed to capture just how cold outside it has been like Mr King.

Merton Street is a historic central Oxford street that bends from High Street to Oriel Square.

Hosting famous landmarks such as Corpus Christi College and the 'Pink House', notable writers such as Siegfried Sassoon and J. R. R Tolkein have also called the street home over the years.

We've received hundreds of pictures from readers this week of your finest snow creations and many a snowy back garden has also been captured and sent in to us.

If you're still hungry for more wintery images, never fear, there's plenty more to come in tomorrow's Oxford Mail as we show the best Camera Club contributions to our theme 'Baby It’s Cold Outside.'
