JAM jar lanterns were used to create a 'wishing wall' as the Christmas Lights Festival got started yesterday.
The jars, donated by members of the public, lined the walls of Oxford Castle as people gathered for the start of this year's lantern parade.
For £1, people were invited to light a candle and make a wish, with all proceeds going to the Make A Wish Foundation.
The parade started in the castle yard where participants enjoyed mulled wine and sweet treats from the castle cafe.
Activities for the light festival continue in the castle quarter this weekend where a pendulum wave machine light installation has been set up.
Based on a model designed by Ernst Mach, the pendulum is used to understand how supersonic travel might one day be possible.
There will also be pop-up performances from choirs, illuminated jugglers, hula hoop artists and other light-based & interactive attractions.
